Set sail aboard a state-of-the-art research vessel and join the Ocean Heroes team—an elite squad of marine adventurers tackling urgent ecological threats to our oceans. In this immersive single-player journey, students explore vibrant underwater biomes, investigate real-world marine challenges, and help restore three iconic ecosystems: coral reefs, kelp forests, and mangrove shorelines.
Ocean Heroes is more than just an educational game—it’s an inspiring call to action. Developed by Shapescape in collaboration with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the Voice of the Ocean Foundation, this world introduces players to biodiversity, ecosystem interconnectivity, and the impact of human activity on marine health.
Ocean Heroes combines science-based storytelling with interactive missions to foster ocean literacy and empower students to become stewards of the sea.
Curiosity is the driver of science, and Ocean Heroes will trigger curiosity. Developed with the help of ocean scientists, the game will inspire young people to understand and pursue ocean science. It will enhance ocean literacy and equip the next generation with the critical awareness and skills needed to safeguard the ocean—our planet’s most vital resource.
Ocean Heroes debuted at the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, and is part of the global UN Ocean Decade initiative. It's freely available to schools and learners worldwide via Minecraft Education, the Minecraft Marketplace, and the UNESCO Blue Schools network.
